Disney Fans Unite: Here’s Your Answer to ‘What Kind of Dog is Bolt?’

by Dr. Elisa Foster

Wasn’t the movie ‘Bolt’ so much fun!

Since you are reading this article, there are chances that you’ve already watched the movie and now – like a fellow Disney-aholic – want to know every detail of loveable Disney characters. And now you, like a thousand others, be wondering with one question: what kind of dog is Bolt?

Mittens – the street cat from ‘Bolt’ – may have told our protagonist titular dog that things from a TV show aren’t ‘real,’ but, luckily, we’re in for a treat. There is a real, easily available breed of the dog exactly like the one we saw in the movie.

Every movie watcher was a little jealous of Penny, who got the most loyal canine by her side. The bond left everyone scratching their heads, thinking, ‘what kind of dog is Bolt?’

It is a White Swiss Shepherd dog!

Fun Facts About a White Swiss Shepherd Dog

Fans are in for a treat as we have compiled a list of some fascinating facts about the ‘Bolt’ dog. Here are some:

  • A Neglected Breed: The White Swiss Shepherd wasn’t recognized as a purebred for many years. Many people wrongly assumed that it is a mixed breed of the more-popular German Shepherd. It debuted in the 1800s but wasn’t classified as a separate breed until 1931. In the 1970s, the US recognized it as a separate breed almost forty years later.
  • Energetic Dog: The White Swiss Shepherd is an extremely energetic animal and loves to play in open and large spaces for long hours. They’re also good at accepting all kinds of challenges – just like our favorite Bolt did in the movie and set out on a dangerous and eventful journey to reunite with his human.
  • Highly Sensitive: Something about them makes you weak in the knees. The adorable canine is a highly sensitive animal, so if you are planning to get one, you have to be extra careful with the training phase. These dogs will not be able to bear a harsh training regimen. Be sensitive and use positive words when you’re training them.
  • Heavy Shedding: And that’s the catch! These dogs, as adorable as they are, are prone to massive shedding. You probably would end up keeping all things black locked in a closet or storage units for a ‘while.’
  • Health Risks: The White Swiss Shepherd is prone to several challenging health conditions. They’re at risk of bloating, degenerative myelopathy, blindness, and nerve damage. Most dogs may develop hip dysplasia – a genetic disease, and the best way to rule it out is to check a pup’s parents’ health.
  • Pricey: All good things come at a cost, and the price tag of the ‘white’ Bolt dog is over $1,000.

This is Bolt

Here was your answer to the most-tending Google search: ‘what kind of dog is Bolt?’ The White Swiss Shepherd dog is an adorable family dog that makes a great companion. What are you waiting for? It’s time you got yours!
