Facts about Entlebucher Mountain Dog

It’s believed that the first dogs of this breed appeared as early as the Middle Ages. In those distant times, cattle breeding flourished in the Entlebuch valley and farmers needed shepherds and guards. Since large predators had been exterminated by then, and the work had to be done in the mountains, small-sized, hardy dogs that didn’t need any special care were extremely useful.

Description

The Entlebucher Mountain Dog is a smooth-haired fidget that will gladly keep you company during your morning jog in the park or on a weekend at the beach. If you're looking for a pet to share your interest in sports, these dogs won't disappoint either. Nimble and quick-witted, these companions will easily master any stunts, provided they are systematically trained under their owner's guidance. In the rare moments of leisure, these dogs don't sleep and vigilantly watch everything that's happening in his sight and reach. So you can trust them to guard your home and your own peace of mind - your pet will announce unauthorized entry with an unusually loud voice. The first documented breed description was made in 1889. In 1913, a dog show was held in Langenthal. After this show, the Entlebucher dogs were classified as a separate breed and added to the Swiss pedigree book.
