Legend has it that one of the Tang emperors had about 5,000 Chow Chow pets.
The Chow Chow is one of the world’s oldest breeds. The dog that licked the edge of the night sky, the bear dog, the lion dog – what epithets human imagination has not rewarded these dogs with. Introduced in China more than two thousand years ago, Chow Chows were originally used as guarding dogs, hunting dogs, and even fighting dogs. Now it’s a companion that has kept all the best features of its distant ancestors in the depths of its mysterious soul. Chow Chow puppies are born with a pink tongue. The blue or purple hue of the tongue appears as the animal matures.
Another legend says that when the deities were painting the sky blue when the world was created, several thick drops of paint accidentally fell from the sky and landed on the Chow Chow’s tongues.
The Chow Chow has a high level of sociability, so it needs regular human contact.
Care should also be taken with the composition of food, as the breed is prone to food allergies.
During the hot season, walk your dog early in the morning or after sunset.
These dogs often refuse to obey commands that they think are silly or incomprehensible. In this case, it’s better to invite an experienced instructor.
Sigmund Freud had a Chow Chow named Jo-Fi (Yofi). The founder of psychoanalysis believed that these animals are able to remove nervous tension from a person, and at the same time are excellent judges of the human character.
