Dogs of this breed are greatly revered by Native Americans for their unique light blue eye color. Many songs have been written about them and they are characters in Native American folklore. They are considered sacred animals capable of bringing back a loved one who has died.
Australian Shepherds are capable of smiling and if a dog is very happy, he wiggles his butt.
The Australian Shepherd isn’t the only name of the breed. In Europe it’s called differently: Californian Shepherd, Texan Shepherd, Blue Heeler. The name Australian Shepherd, however, is considered the official one.
Aussies are poised, energetic, and active. They are very affectionate and cheerful. The breed takes well to training, welcomes new tasks with joy, and does them well. It’s very important for them that the owner pays attention to them and praises them for their help. Left alone in the house, they get bored and spoil things and furniture. Aussies love children and are great friends with them. But with strangers, the Australian Shepherds are a little reserved. On the other hand, they’re friendly with other dogs and are great at shows and during outdoor walks. When it comes to socializing with their owners, these dogs love nothing more than to actively play with them. This is the kind of breed that will happily run outside in the rain, snow, or slush. They will tirelessly run laps or through obstacle courses over and over again. By the way, Aussies are dogs that can “smile” when they see someone from their family. They have no lack of zest for life.
